The glory days of the Atlanta dance club known as Backstreet, are re-lived in a stunning gallery of color images presented by Sandy Springs photographer Marti Griffin. The exhibition, "Backstreet: The Atlanta Dance Club Retrospective" goes on displayning May 15 through June 15, 2008 at Midtown Atlanta, GA 30318. "If you were a regular patron of this once-nic dance club, these works will bring back a flood of memories.", says Ms. Griffin. "For those who never got the chance to be there, I believe they will get a real sense of what that place was all aboutMs. Griffin's commercial exposure to Backstreet began in 1996 when she was asked to shoot covers of Intersound Record label's "Dancing" series of CD's.
"The avant-garde atmosphere and hip sophistication of the patrons at Backstreet
provided the perfect setting for that assignment", recalls Ms. Griffin. "I got to know
the lighting director Pete McHugh and, when he saw what I'd done for Intersound,
he showed my work to the Backstreet owners who then asked me to do shoots
for their brochures and website.".
Ms. Griffin's career as a photographer and photographic illustrator has spanned
three decades. Her talent has been showcased worldwide in top magazines,
advertising for major corporations and in cover art for a variety of recording artists. Jody Romig has always been gifted with an artful eye. She will make her formal debut at Art Space International

I've always been fascinated by the exhibits at third-rate roadside attractions in small, out-of-the-way locations. Glass Eye #49 is based on these kind of rundown, borderline macabre specimens in a tourist trap attached to a gas station.
The glass eye is real. The rest I made up and built |
